What does the fertility workup include?

A personalized evaluation combining clinical history, physical exam, hormonal tests, specialized ultrasound and, when needed, complementary studies such as hysterosalpingography or seminal analysis. The goal is to clarify the picture and define the right next step for each couple or individual patient.

When should I book a fertility workup?

If you are 35 or younger and have been trying for 12 months without success, it is time to start the workup. If you are over 35, I suggest seeking help after 6 months; and if there is a history of irregular cycles, endometriosis, pelvic surgery or known male factor, it is best to consult from the beginning.

What studies are ordered in the first visit?

Usually a hormonal panel (FSH, LH, AMH, prolactin, thyroid), transvaginal ultrasound with antral follicle count, your partner's seminal analysis and, depending on the case, hysterosalpingography or hysterosonography. Indications are tailored to your history to avoid unnecessary tests.

Is assisted reproduction always required?

No. Many patients achieve pregnancy with timed intercourse or intrauterine insemination; others require in vitro fertilization. The decision is made based on diagnosis, age, ovarian reserve and prior history — not as a standard protocol.
